A complete set of the main format titles comprising nos. 1 – 132 in 120, lacking only the 6 English Poets volumes issued in a different format, and nos. 41,42,54,56,114 & 118 which were never published.
Numerous colour and monochrome illustrations, all in original pictorial boards, 95 of which have the original dust jackets. 105 volumes are first editions, some with wear but mostly good. Some inscriptions on some endpapers (some quite cute), and loosely inserted in the volume on Trade Unions is an 8 page manuscript entitled ‘What is Socialism’ 8vo. (225x170x c.10mm)
Britain in Pictures was a survey of Britain and the British people covering all aspects of British life including poetry, sport, overseas, science, architecture, natural history and decorative arts.
Many distinguished writers contributed to the series including Cecil Beaton, John Betjeman, Neville Cardus, Bernard Darwin, James Fisher, Ngaio Marsh, Graham Greene, George Orwell, John Piper and Vita Sackville-West.
